Isle of Palms was originally named by J.S. Lawrence, who bought the island in the late nineteenth century after the area became an increasingly popular vacation spot. Thereafter, in 1975 and under the new ownership of J.C. Long, Isle of Palms began large scale development primarily for World War II Veterans. Since then, Isle of Palms has remained and become a crown jewel of Coastal Carolina for vacationers and residents alike.
